Abstract
Dieses Protokoll zeigt die Schritte einer klassischen Sektion einer Ratte. Es braucht eine erfahrene, geschulte Person, die sie unterstützt, da dieses Protokoll für sich allein nicht ausreichend für eine erfolgreiche Sektion ist.
Hier werden zuerst Strukturen im Halsbereich, sowie die Organe des Herz-Kreislauf-Systems und Verdauungstraktes freigelegt, danach das Exkretionssystem und die Geschlechtsorgane.
Sie werden folgende Strukturen sehen können:
Kaumuskel, Speicheldrüsen, Lymphknoten & Tränendrüse
Herz, herznahe Blutgefäße, Luftröhre, Lunge, Zwerchfell, Leber, Milz, Speiseröhre, Magen, Pankreas, Dünndarm, Dickdarm mit Blinddarm, Enddarm
Nieren, Nierengefäße, Nebenniere, Harnleiter, Harnblase
Scheide, Gebärmutter, Eileiter, Eierstöcke
Hoden, Nebenhoden, Samenleiter, Vorsteherdrüse, Bläschendrüse, Präputialdrüse
This protocol shows the steps of a classical dissection of a rat. It needs an experienced and educated person guiding you and this protocol on its own not sufficient for a successful dissection.
Here we start with the exposure of the neck region, the organs of the cardiovascular system, and the digestive tract, followed by the excretory system and the genitalia.
You will see the following structures:
Masticatory muscle, salivary glands, lymph nodes, lacrimal gland
Heart, blood vessels near the heart, trachea, lungs, diaphragm, liver, spleen, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine with appendix, rectum
Kidneys, renal vessels, adrenal gland, ureters, urinary bladder
Vagina, uterus, oviduct, ovaries
Testes, epididymis, vas deferens, prostate, seminal vesicles, preputial gland

Safety warnings
Arbeiten Sie konzentriert und genau, v.a. wenn Sie mit dem Skalpell arbeiten.
Seien Sie sich bewusst, dass Sie mit potenziell infektiösem Material (Blut etc.) in Berührung kommen können.
Tragen Sie PSA je nach Vorschriften und eigenem Sicherheitsbedürfnis.
Work concentrated and precisely, especially when handling the scalpel.
Be aware that you can get in touch with potential infectious material (blood, etc.).
Wear PPE according to regulation and your own sense of security.

Vor dem Sezieren von Tieren zu Lehrzwecken muss man sich mit den ethischen Aspekten auseinandersetzen.
Before a dissection of animals for teaching purpose you have to deal with the ethical aspects.

Alle Schritte (1-8 inkl. Unterpunkte) entsprechen den acht Zeichnungen, die auf dem pdf-Anhang zum Protokoll dargestellt sind. Befolgen Sie alle Anweisungen der geschulten Person, die Sie während der Sektion begleitet!
All steps (1-8 incl. sub-steps) correspond to the eight drawings, which are shown at the PDF-attachment of the protocol. Follow all instructions of the educated person who is supervising your dissection!

Die Ratte wird in die Sezierwanne gelegt. Das Tier wird möglichst gerade ausgerichtet und die Beine mit großen Stecknadeln fixiert. Mit den Nadeln wird schräg von außen durch die/den Mittelhand/fuß eingestochen. Dabei ausreichend Spannung aufbauen, sodass sich der Körper des Tiers während der Präparation kaum bewegen kann.
Der Kopf wird mit zwei Nadeln fixiert, die durch den Mundraum über die Wangen nach außen gestochen werden.
The rat is put into the dissection basin. The animal is aligned straight, and the legs are pinned down using large pins. These pins are put through the midhand/midfoot at an angle from the outside. Build up enough tension so that the body of the animal can only move barely during dissection.
The head is fixed using two pins, stung through the mouth through the cheeks to the outside.
Um das Tier zu häuten, wird als Erstes mit dem Skalpell ein kleiner Schnitt etwa 1,5 cm über einer sichtbaren Geschlechtsöffnung gemacht (a). Hierzu wird mit der chirurgischen Pinzette (große Zähne) die Haut nach oben gespannt und mit einem ziehenden Schnitt die Haut durchtrennt. WICHTIG: jetzt wird noch nicht durch die Muskulatur geschnitten! Der Schnitt ist tief genug, wenn eine silbrig rosarote Schicht zu sehen ist.
To flay the animal, a small cut around 1.5 cm above a visible vent is made using the scalpel (a). For this purpose, the surgical tweezers (large teeth) are used to stretch the skin upwards and cut the skin with a smooth and pulling cut. IMPORTANT: so far we are not cutting through the muscles! You cut deep enough when a silvery-pink layer is visible.
Das stumpfe Blatt einer großen chirurgischen Schere (spitz/stumpf) wird in diese Hautöffnung geschoben und die Haut wird bis unter das Kinn aufgeschnitten (b).
Dann wird mit der Schere je ein langer Schnitt entlang aller vier Extremitäten durchgeführt (c).
The blunt blade of the large surgery scissor (pointed/blunt) is slid into this opening, and the skin is cut up to the chin (b).
After this, the skin is opened along all four extremities with a long cut with the scissors in each chase (c).
Nun wird die Haut unter Zuhilfenahme eines Skalpells mit langen ziehenden Schnitten abgezogen, zur Seite gelegt und mit Stecknadeln festgesteckt (a). Vorsichtig im Bereich des Halses vorgehen, um die Speicheldrüsen, besonders die Ohrspeicheldrüse, nicht zu verletzen.
Danach wird kaltes Wasser in die Wanne gefüllt, bis das gesamte Tier (zumindest aber die Bauchdecke) unter Wasser liegt (b).
Now the skin is flayed with the help of a scalpel with long pulling cuts, put to the side, and fixed with pins (a). Attention in the neck area do not harm the salivary glands, especially the parotid gland.
After this, the dissection basin is filled with cold water until the entire rat (at least the abdominal wall) is submerged (b).
Mit einer gebogenen anatomischen Pinzette (feine Querrillen) können nun die drei Speicheldrüsen, Lymphknoten und Tränendrüsen freigelegt werden, indem Binde- und Fettgewebe abgezogen werden (c). Es kann hilfreich sein, dabei zwei anatomische Pinzetten zu verwenden. Vorsicht im Bereich der Ohrspeicheldrüse, damit nicht versehentlich Teile davon abgezupft werden!
Now the three salivary glands, the lymph nodes, and the lacrimal gland can be uncovered using bent anatomical tweezers (small grooves) by peeling away conjunctive and fat tissue (c). It can be helpful to use two anatomical tweezers for this. Be careful in the area of the parotid gland do not accidentally remove parts of it.
Um die Bauchdecke zu öffnen, wird mit der chirurgischen Pinzette die Bauchdecke nach oben gespannt und mit dem Skalpell ein kleiner Schnitt durch die Muskulatur gemacht (a).
Now the abdominal wall will be opened. Therefore, pull up the abdominal wall with the surgical tweezers and make a small cut through the muscles using the scalpel (a).
Dann wird das stumpfe Blatt der großen Schere in die Öffnung eingeführt und entlang der Linea alba bis zum Schwertfortsatz geschnitten (b).
Weiter entlang der Rippenbögen, um somit die gesamte Bauchdecke beidseitig entfernen zu können (c).
The blunt blade of the large scissors is inserted into the opening, and a cut alongside the linea alba until the beginning of the xiphoid process is made (b).
Continue along the ribs, and to remove the entire abdominal wall (c).
Bevor der Brustkorb entfernt werden kann, wird das Zwerchfell von den Rippenbögen geschnitten. Um das Zwerchfell besser sehen zu können, wird am besten mit der spitzen Schere, Nadel oder Skalpellspitze ein kleines Loch in das Zwerchfell gestochen. Dadurch dringt Luft oder Wasser ein und das Zwerchfell löst sich von der Lunge und dem Brustkorb. Am besten nutzt man nun eine kleine spitze Schere, während man den Brustkorb am Schwertfortsatz nach oben zieht, um das Zwerchfell vom Brustkorb zu trennen (a).
Before the thorax can be removed, the diaphragm has to be cut from the ribcage. To better see the diaphragm, it is best to pierce a little hole into the diaphragm using a pointed scissor, needle, or the tip of the scalpel. As a result, air or water will intrude, and the diaphragm detaches from the lung and the ribcage. The easiest way is to now use a small pointed scissor while the thorax is pulled upwards at the xiphoid process (a).
Danach wird der Brustkorb geöffnet, indem die Rippen und das Brustbein mit der großen Schere (stumpfes Blatt im Tier) durchtrennt werden (b). Anschließend muss der Rest des Brustbeins entfernt und die Schlüsselbeine durchtrennt werden. Wenn die Luftröhre zu sehen ist, wurde ausreichend Muskulatur und Knochenstrukturen entfernt.
The thorax is opened by cutting the ribs and the sternum with the large scissor (blunt tip within the animal) (b). The remnants of the sternum have to be removed, and the collarbones have to be cut. Enough muscle tissue and bony structures are removed when the trachea can be seen.
Die Thymusdrüse wird entfernt, indem die Drüse mit einer gebogenen anatomischen Pinzette gegriffen und in Richtung Kopf abgezogen wird (a).
Um einen guten Blick auf das Herz und die herznahen Blutgefäße zu haben, empfiehlt es sich, nun das Wasser zu wechseln (b).
Grab the thymus gland with bent anatomical tweezers and remove it by pulling it towards the head (a).
To have a good view of the heart and the blood vessels near the heart, it is recommended to change the water (b).

Wenn alle bisher freigelegten Strukturen besprochen/gezeichnet wurden, wird der Verdauungstrakt entfernt. Dazu wird die Speiseröhre unmittelbar vor dem Magen und der Enddarm durchtrennt. Der Verdauungstrakt kann nun einfach auf die Seite gezogen werden. Das Mesenterium und die Blutgefäße werden mit der Schere durchtrennt, um den Verdauungstrakt leichter entfernen zu können.
When all structures so far exposed are discussed/drawn, the digestive tract can be removed. Therefore, the esophagus just before the stomach and the rectum were cut. The digestive tract can be pulled to the side now, and with scissors the mesentery and blood vessels can be cut to remove the digestive tract more easily.
Fettgewebe wird nun mit einer anatomischen Pinzette von der hinteren Hohlvene, den Nierengefäßen und dem Harnleiter entfernt. Bei den Harnleitern in Richtung des Verlaufes dieser ziehen, um sie nicht abzureißen. Wichtig: Fettgewebe, das von den Geschlechtsorganen ausgeht, nicht entfernen!
Remove fat tissue with anatomical tweezers from the inferior vena cava, the renal blood vessels, and the ureter. At the ureter, pull only in the direction of their route to not tear them. Important: Do not remove fat tissue connected to reproductive organs!
Bei einem weiblichen Tier sind keine weiteren Schritte mehr notwendig. Bei einem männlichen Tier werden noch die Hodensäcke mit der großen Schere geöffnet, um so Hoden, Nebenhoden und Samenleiter freizulegen. Die Fettfahnen, die von den Nebenhoden ausgehen, dienen dabei der Orientierung (a).
Anschließend kann noch die Haut mit einer kleinen spitzen Schere vom Penisschaft entfernt werden, um die Präputialdrüsen freizulegen (b).
For female animals, no more steps are necessary. In male animals, open the scrotum with the large scissor to uncover the testis, epididymis, and vas deferens. The fat tissue originating from the epididymidis is used for orientation (a).
Subsequently, the skin from the penis shaft can be removed using a small pointed scissor to see the preputial gland (b).
