This protocol details the processing of serum from the whole blood sample.

Procedure

Gently invert the tubes at 180º and back 5-6 times after blood collection. After that, allow the tube to stand upright for Duration00:30:00 minimum from time of collection if needed, to allow for blood clotting to occur.

Centrifuge the yellow cap tube(s) at Centrifigation1800 x g, Room temperature, 00:10:00 NO BRAKE

Centrifigation
Once the centrifugation is complete, the gel must physically separate the red blood cells (bottom layer) and the serum (top layer) as shown in the figure.



Use the Pasteur pipette provided or a micropipette to aliquot Amount250 µL of the serum (upper layer) into the 5 or 6 x 1 ml cryovials labelled as SER.

Pipetting
Place serum samples in Temperature-80 °C .

Processing of the blood needs to be completed within Duration04:00:00 . For waiting periods longer than 2 hours from collection the blood tube should be kept in Temperature0 °C - Temperature4 °C .
