Abstract
To establish a comprehensive protocol for the poster preparation and submission of posters for printing, ensuring adherence to technical requirements and efficient processing.
Troubleshooting
Problem
Issues uploading files to the print center
Solution
Verify that all submissions are saved in a print-center-approved format, such as PDF or PowerPoint.
Problem
Payment issues at the print center
Solution
Confirm the accepted payment method at the print center.
Check the specific requirements for your poster presentation and plan the physical delivery before the conference day.
Check the poster requirements of your target conference

Example
- The poster: portrait or landscape
- Size: maximum 36” x 48”
Check your department's requirement
  • If there is a review process before the poster printing
  • If there is a department template for a poster design
  • Use the approved official branding.

University of Rochester Medicine brand unveiled (announcement @Rochester on April 20, 2026)
April 15 marked the unveiling of a refreshed brand name and visual identity for our fully integrated academic health system: University of Rochester Medicine. The brand aligns the patient care, research, and education missions under one umbrella and reflects our strength as One University. You can access new logos, brand guidelines, and frequently asked questions on the URochester Medicine Brand Center, located on the intranet. (University network access required).
Check your collaborator's requirement.
  • UR CTSI-supported work must include the NIH/CTSA acknowledgment if applicable. For the language, visit Cite the UR CTSA Grant.

Generally,
- One dimension must be ≤ 36 inches; the other can be of any length
- File Format: Save as PDF or PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx).
- Graphics: Use scalable vector graphics (EPS, PDF) or high-resolution bitmaps (TIFF, JPEG).

URochester has a site-wide license for BioRender.
BioRender is a web-based app that helps scientists create professional life science figures in minutes. It has a library of over 50,000 scientifically accurate, expert-validated icons and templates for all of your visual communication needs. Pair figures with your data to communicate your research with publications, posters, and presentations.
When you log in to BioRender with your URochester netID and password, click 'Create new' and then choose 'Poster Builder'. Next, search 'Rochester' to view the URochester poster templates.

Setting Page Size
Change the document page size to the intended print size (e.g., 36" x 48").
Designing Content
Incorporate text, images, and figures, ensuring clarity and readability.

Formatting standards that print wellTitle: ≥ 72 pt Section headers: ~36 pt Body text: 24 pt (or 12 pt if working at half‑scale) Leave ½ inch margins Insert images with the 'Insert' function to avoid low resolution with copy & paste
Internal scientific & branding review

FAQ
Q. I am not ready for poster design because I can't decide on my poster contents. Do you have a tip for publishing research outcomes?
A. Visit 'New Scholar: Tips for Publishing' by URochester River Campus Libraries
Q. Do you have a recommended guideline for authorship when I prepare a poster?
A. UR library recommends using the CRediT Taxonomy https://credit.niso.org/. You can use this principle when you create any documents with collaborators, including work protocols, research protocols, or any publications.
Q. I don't have any experience with poster design. Is there a training opportunity?
A. URochester Library can help you with a lot of training materials and examples. Check this slide-deck to get tips on poster creation.
