Materials

Before start
In order to prevent blood clotting during blood sampling, the addition of an anticoagulant (EDTA, sodium citrate or heparin) in the tubes is needed. Check for the presence of an anticoagulant in vacuum-sealed tubes used for blood sampling.
Put whole blood (at least Amount1.5 mL ) into a 5 mL tube.
Centrifuge at Centrifigation1400 x g, Room temperature, 00:05:00

Carefully collect the supernatant (plasma). Do not touch the red pellet on the bottom.

Note
≤ 85% of plasma should be retrieved to avoid contamination by the underlying cell pellet.

Store plasma at -80°C until use. Defrost only once.
EXPECTED RESULTS

Expected result
Expected plasma yield is approximately 50% of whole blood volume.
