Abstract
The protocol for the cleaning and sterilization of your OGI BioReactor silicon bungs.
Guidelines
Bungs should be cleaned immediately after an experiment to prevent fouling in the needles due to dry culture.
Take care not to bend the Media/Waste bung needles, as they are carefully designed to fit standard 500 mL Duran bottles.
Take care when handling the bungs as, while care is taken to ensure no cutting edges are left, the needles can be sharp.
Before start
Ensure you have familiarised yourself with the guidelines and warnings for this protocol.
Cleaning
Cleaning
As soon after running an experiment as possible, using a small piece of 1 mm ID tubing, flush both Source (S) and Drain (D) needles with ethanol to prevent debris buildup.
If using, flush the needle of the Waste flask bung with ethanol.
Sterilization
Sterilization
As the needles are sharp, double-bag the bungs in paper autoclave bags.
